Feel the power of the forest

Kagoshima is full of exhilarating sights, but if you need a little break between your travels, why not relax in an inviting, cozy space and try crafting with Yakusugi?

Yakusugi refers to ancient Japanese cedar that is only found on the island of Yakushima, designated as Japan’s very first UNESCO world heritage site. Because of its great beauty and distinct aroma, it is considered a precious wood and, in Japanese culture, symbolizes protection against bad luck and evil spirits.

Even if you can’t make it all the way out to Yakushima, you can still invoke in the power and mysticism of the forest in our one-of-a-kind, hands-on workshop!

Pick out your favorite piece of gorgeous Yakusugi cedar (that was sustainably recovered from buried wood) and, using various weights of sanding paper, carefully shape it into a custom keyholder.

Your host will guide you with easy to follow instructions and share with you their insights on Kagoshima and its abundant, diverse landscapes. This is a special experience offered only by Fun Fan Try and can be found nowhere else in Kagoshima City!
